Canada defeats Denmark 6-0 in men’s hockey at 2020 Youth Olympic Winter Games

Team Canada came through with a 6-0 win over Denmark on Sunday at the 2020 Youth Olympic Winter Games in Lausanne, Switzerland.With the win, Canada improved to a record of one win and one loss as they previously lost to Russia 6-2 on Saturday.

The Canadians were led by Vincent Filion of Shawinigan, Quebec, who made eight saves for the shutout. Offensively, four Canadians registered a multi-point game. Antonin Verreault of Saint-Jerome, Quebec had two goals and one assist for three points. Meanwhile, three other Canadians had two point games. Cedrick Guindon of Rockland, Ontario and captain Matthew Savoie of St. Albert, Alberta had one goal and one assist each and Mats Lindgren of Vancouver, British Columbia had two assists. The other Canadian goal scorers were assistant captain Adam Fantilli of Toronto, Ontario and Justin Cote of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec.

Canada will now play the United States in one of two semi-finals on Tuesday. Russia will play Finland in the other semi-final. The United States won both of their Group A games as they beat Finland 7-5 and Switzerland 8-2. Russia won both of their Group B games. In addition to their 6-2 win over Canada, they also beat Denmark 9-0. Finland meanwhile reached the semi-final with a 2-1 win over Switzerland on Monday.
