The Toronto Blue Jays tried to improve their bullpen on Wednesday as we are approaching the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star break. They came to terms with relief pitcher Sergio Romo to a contract according to Steve Adams of mlbtraderumors.com. The Blue Jays will become Romo’s seventh Major League team as he previously pitched with the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, Minnesota Twins, Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners.
It has been a bit of a struggle for Romo this season. In 17 games with the Mariners, he had an earned run average of 8.16.
Toronto will be hoping that Romo returns to the form he had in 2011 to 2013 when he was with the Giants. In 2011, Romo had an earned run average of 1.50 in 65 games. In 2012, Romo had an earned run average of 1.79 in 69 games. Then in 2013, Romo was selected to the MLB All-Star Game, and had a career-high 38 saves. Also with the Giants, Romo won three World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014.
The Blue Jays are in third place in the American League East with a record of 42 wins and 33 losses. They have the second wildcard spot in the junior circuit. The only team in a wildcard spot better than Toronto is Boston at 43 wins and 33 losses.
