The Toronto Blue Jays acquired outfielder Myles Straw in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians on Friday according to Keegan Matheson of mlb.com on Friday. The Blue Jays also received international bonus pool money. In return, the Guardians received cash considerations or a player to be named later.

The Blue Jays are the third Major League Baseball team that Straw has joined. He previously played four seasons with the Houston Astros from 2018 to 2021, and the last four seasons with the Cleveland Guardians from 2021 to 2024.

In 2024, Straw did not have much playing time. He played in seven games, and had only four plate appearances. In four at bats, he batted .250 with one hit, two runs scored, two stolen bases, one total base, an on base percentage of .250 and a slugging percentage of .250.

The Blue Jays made the transaction with the Guardians with the hope they would sign Japanese pitching prospect Roki Sasaki. However, just like Shohei Ohtani a year ago, Sasaki chose the Los Angeles Dodgers instead.

There are three free agents that are available on the free agent market. They are third baseman Alex Bregman, outfielder Anthony Santander, and first baseman Pete Alonso. In order for the Blue Jays to be competitive this season and contend for a playoff spot, they need to sign two of the aforementioned free agents. The current Blue Jays batting lineup is terrible and do not make the Blue Jays competitive.
