The Toronto Blue Jays acquired catcher Zack Collins from the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. In return, the White Sox received catcher Reese McGuire according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Collins is expected to backup Danny Jansen and Alejandro Kirk. However, Collins could see some playing time even though he is third on the Blue Jays’ depth chart when it comes to catchers. That is because Kirk is expected to see some considerable amount of time this season at designated hitter.

In 2022, Collins batted .210 with four home runs and 26 runs batted in. During 78 games, 231 plate appearances, and 195 at bats, he scored 25 runs, and recorded 41 hits, 13 doubles, one stolen base, 34 walks, 66 total bases, an on base percentage of .330, and a slugging percentage of .338.

The White Sox won all four of their games last season when Collins hit a home run. Collins’s home runs came in a 10-4 Chicago win over the Seattle Mariners on April 6, in a 3-0 Chicago win over the Kansas City Royals on May 7, in an 8-5 Chicago win over the Minnesota Twins on July 1, and in a 10-1 Chicago win over the Houston Astros on July 17. In the White Sox win over the Twins on Canada Day, Collins also had his only stolen base of the season. McGuire meanwhile batted .253, with one home run and 10 runs batted in during 2021.
