For a second time a Canadian has won on the PGA Tour in 2022. For the second time, a Canadian has won the RSM Classic in St. Simons Island, Georgia. In both instances Adam Svensson of Surrey, British Columbia has followed in the footsteps of Mackenzie Hughes of Hamilton, Ontario, who won the 2016 RSM Classic, and the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi.
On Sunday, Svensson posted a four-round score of -19. He beat England’s Callum Tarren and Americans Brian Harman and Sahith Theegala, who were all two strokes off the lead at -17.
Svensson got into contention on the weekend with a sizzling 62 on Saturday. At the time, he moved within one stroke of the lead of Americans Ben Martin and Patrick Rodgers.
By winning in Georgia, Svensson qualifies for the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui in January, and the Masters in April. The Masters will be Svensson’s first major championship. In fact, the Tournament of Champions will be the next PGA tournament in early January, as the world’s best golfers now get the next six weeks off.
Svensson now climbs up to 72nd in the Official World Golf Rankings. He is behind Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario, who is 33rd in the world, and Hughes, who is 51st.
