Wild sign center Sam Steel

According to the Canadian Press on Tuesday, the Minnesota Wild have signed center Sam Steel of Adrossan, Alberta. The terms of the contract are for one year and $825,000.

Steel has spent the last four seasons with the Anaheim Ducks. Last year in 68 games, he had six goals and 14 assists for 20 points. Steel was also a -17 with 16 penalty minutes, one game-winning goal, 66 shots on goal, 203 faceoff wins, 27 blocked shots, 37 hits, 18 takeaways and 20 giveaways. The game-winning goal came in a 7-4 Ducks win over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia on February 19, 2022. The goal came at 4:20 of the second period from Trevor Zegras and Sonny Milano, and put the Ducks up 5-0 at the time.

In 197 career games, Steel has 24 goals and 41 assists for 65 points. He is a -35 with 52 penalty minutes, 13 power-play points, one shorthanded point, two game-winning goals, 226 shots on goal, 917 faceoff wins, 77 blocked shots, 111 hits, 60 takeaways and 80 giveaways. The lone National Hockey League shorthanded point Steel has in his career was a shorthanded goal. It came in Steel’s rookie season on April 5, 2019 in a 5-2 Ducks win over the Los Angeles Kings. Steel scored from Jakob Silfverberg and Cam Fowler at 8:34 of the third period. The goal put the Ducks up 4-1 at the time.
