Tristan Jarry records 11th NHL shutout

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry of Surrey, British Columbia recorded his 11th National Hockey League shutout and fourth shutout of the 2021-22 NHL regular season on Saturday. Jarry made 27 saves Saturday afternoon as the Penguins defeated the New York Rangers 1-0 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Jarry made 12 saves in the first period, five saves in the second period, and 10 saves in the third period. Chris Kreider led the Rangers with six shots on goal.

The Penguins’ lone goal of the game came at 5:09 of the third period on the power play. Evgeni Malkin scored his eighth goal of the season from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Sidney Crosby of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Bryan Rust. Crosby won a gold medal for Canada in men’s hockey at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Jarry’s other shutouts this season came in a 6-0 Penguins win over the Montreal Canadiens on November 18, in a 2-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 20, and in a 1-0 win over the New York Islanders on November 26. On the season, Jarry has a record of 26 wins, 11 regulation losses, and six losses in extra time, with a goals against average of 2.33 and a save percentage of .921.

The Penguins are comfortably in a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. With a record of 32 wins, 14 regulation losses, and eight losses in extra time, they have 72 points, in second place of the Metropolitan Division, and 17 points up on the fifth place Columbus Blue Jackets.
