Travis Konecny records his second career NHL hat trick

Travis Konecny of London, Ontario notched his second National Hockey League career hat trick on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-3 Flyers win over the Washington Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Konecny put the Flyers up 2-1 with 33 seconds left in the first period from Joel Farabee. After a scoreless second period, he scored the game-winning goal at 7:28 of the third period shorthanded from Scott Laughton of Oakville, Ontario and Ivan Provorov to put the Flyers up 4-1. Konecny then scored with 13 seconds left in the third period on the power play into an empty net to give Philadelphia the 5-3 win.

Konecny was one of three Canadians with a multi-point game. The others were Laughton (one goal and two assists for three points), and Owen Tippett of Peterborough, Ontario (one goal and one assist for two points).

In 36 games, Konecny now has 24 goals and 22 assists for 46 points and is a -3. He has 49 penalty minutes, 12 power-play points, a career-high five shorthanded points (in fact the first five shorthanded points in his seven-year NHL career), 19 faceoff wins, 25 blocked shots, 39 hits, 18 takeaways, and 15 giveaways.

Konecny’s first NHL hat trick came on January 15, 2021 in a 5-2 Flyers win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. With the win, the Flyers improved to a record of 17 wins, 18 regulation losses and seven losses in extra time for 41 points.
