Martin Jones of North Vancouver, British Columbia recorded his 27th National Hockey League shutout on Monday. He made 21 saves as the Seattle Kraken beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-0 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
Jones made six saves in the first period, nine saves in the second period, and six saves in the third period. Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki of London, Ontario led the Canadiens with five shots on goal.
Two Canadians had a multi-point game for the Kraken. Defenseman Vince Dunn of Mississauga, Ontario had one goal and one assist for two points. Meanwhile, Yanni Gourde of Saint-Narcisse, Quebec had two assists. The other Kraken goal scorers were Eeli Tolvanen. Daniel Sprong and Matthew Beniers.
On the season, Jones has a record of 19 wins, five regulation losses, and three losses in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.78 and a save percentage of .894, and two shutouts. Jones’s other shutout this season came on November 3 in a 4-0 Kraken win over the Minnesota Wild. Of Jones’s 27 NHL career shutouts, 18 were with the San Jose Sharks, seven were with the Los Angeles Kings and two with the Kraken.
With the win, Seattle improves to a record of 23 wins, 12 regulation losses and four losses in extra time for 50 points. They are in third place in the Pacific Division.
