Canada trounces Tanzania 6-0 at FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup

Team Canada stayed alive at the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Katowice, Poland on Friday. In Group B action, Canada trounced Tanzania 6-0 to improve to a record of one win, one loss and one draw.

Canada’s game-winning goal was an own goal by Ester Maseke in the seventh minute. Canada then scored five goals on their own. AFC Toronto midfielder Olivia Chisholm of Toronto, Ontario put Canada up 2-0 in the 49th minute. Ottawa South United forward Annabelle Chukwu of Ottawa, Ontario then put Canada up 4-0 with goals in the 54th and 66th minutes. Canada then went up 5-0 as AFC Toronto forward Kaylee Hunter of Calgary, Alberta scored in the 76th minute, and University of Iowa midfielder Liana Tarasco of Montreal, Quebec closed out the scoring in the 85th minute.

Prior to Canada’s 6-0 win over Tanzania on Friday, Canada tied England 1-1 in their opening game of the tournament on September 5 thanks to a goal in the 52nd minute by Chukwu. Canada then lost 3-0 to Brazil on September 8. England also had four points with a record of one win, one loss and one draw. England beat Tanzania 5-1 and lost to Brazil 2-1. Both Canada and England had a goals for and against of +3, and both outscored their opponents 7-4. Why England got second place is because they had a better team conduct score. England has two yellow cards in the tournament so far and has a team conduct score of -2. Canada has one yellow card and one red card, and has a team conduct score of -4.

Canada will now hope they are one of four third place teams that advance to the round of 16. They will await results in C, D, E and F over the next 48 hours.
