Three Canadian starters in 2022 NBA Playoffs

The 2022 NBA Playoffs were underway this weekend and there are three Canadian starters. Small forward Andrew Wiggins of Toronto, Ontario is with the Golden State Warriors, swingman Dillon Brooks of Mississauga, Ontario is with the Memphis Grizzlies, and center Dwight Powell of Toronto is with the Dallas Mavericks. Meanwhile, point guard Jamal Murray of Kitchener, Ontario will be a starter with the Denver Nuggets, if and when he returns from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

This season, Wiggins averaged 17.2 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game and 2.2 assists per game for the Warriors. He also had a field goal percentage of .466, three-point percentage of .393, and a free throw percentage of .634. In game one on Saturday in the Warriors series against the Nuggets, Wiggins had 16 points and nine rebounds in a 123-107 Golden State win.

Brooks averaged 18.4 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, 2.8 assists per game for the Grizzlies. He also has a field goal percentage of .432, three-point percentage of .309, and a free throw percentage of .849. The Grizzlies are playing the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

Powell averaged 8.7 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, and 1.2 assists per game this season for Dallas. He also had a field goal percentage of .671, a three-point percentage of .351, and a free throw percentage of .783. The Mavericks are playing the Utah Jazz in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
