Three Canadian NHL defencemen traded

Three Canadian National Hockey League defencemen were traded on Tuesday. They were Dylan DeMelo of London, Ontario, Brenden Dillon of New Westminster, British Columbia and Marco Scandella of Montreal, Quebec according to TSN. 

DeMelo was traded from the Ottawa Senators to the Winnipeg Jets for a third round draft pick in the 2020 National Hockey League Entry Draft. The Jets become DeMelo’s third NHL team. In addition to the Senators, DeMelo has played for the San Jose Sharks. In 49 games with the Senators this season, DeMelo has zero goals, 10 assists, 10 points, is a +3, 31 penalty minutes, two shorthanded points, 64 shots on goal, 63 blocked shots, 94 hits, eight takeaways and 38 giveaways.

Dillon was traded from the San Jose Sharks to the Washington Capitals for a second round draft pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional third round draft pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. If the Capitals win the Stanley Cup, the Sharks will receive a third round pick in 2020 instead.

In 59 games this season, Dillon has one goal and 13 assists for 14 points. He has 83 penalty minutes, one shorthanded point, 48 shots on goal, 67 blocked shots, 178 hits, 12 takeaways and 22 giveaways. Dillon’s shorthanded point this season came on a goal by Evander Kane of Vancouver, British Columbia in a 4-2 Sharks win over the Chicago Blackhawks on November 5, 2019. The Capitals become Dillon’s third NHL team. In addition to the Sharks, he has played for the Dallas Stars.

Scandella was traded from the Montreal Canadiens to the St. Louis Blues for a second round draft pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional fourth round draft pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The conditional fourth round pick comes with many conditions. The Canadiens get the draft pick next year if Scandella signs with the Blues prior to October 7, 2020 or if the Blues win two rounds in the playoffs and Scandella plays half the Blues games in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Blues become Scandella’s fourth NHL team. In addition to the Canadiens, he has played with the Minnesota Wild and Buffalo Sabres. In 51 games with the Sabres and Canadiens, Scandella has four goals and eight assists for 12 points. He is a +10 with 16 penalty minutes, 60 shots on goal, 53 blocked shots, 63 hits, 15 takeaways and 41 giveaways.
