The Houston Texans have added wide receiver Jared Wayne of Peterborough, Ontario to its playoff roster according to Myles Simmons of NBC Sports on Wednesday. The promotion is significant because Wayne is replacing former Pro Bowl wide receiver Diontae Johnson, who the Texans released on Tuesday. Johnson has since been claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Ravens.

The Texans are coming off a very impressive 32-12 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday. One major storyline for the Texans this season has been the injuries to their wide receiver group. On October 27, Stefon Diggs tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a Texans game against the Indianapolis Colts. Then on December 21, Tank Dell tore his anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament, and lateral collateral ligament, and dislocated his knee against the Kansas City Chiefs. Ironically, the Texans will play the Chiefs in the first divisional playoff game of the weekend on Saturday.

Wayne has played three games for the Texans this season but has not caught a pass. He was signed by the Houston Texans originally on July 17, 2023. Wayne played his college football at the University of Pittsburgh and was drafted in the second round, 16th overall, by the Toronto Argonauts in the 2023 Canadian Football League Draft. He is one of two Canadian wide receivers on the Texans. The other is John Metchie III of Brampton, Ontario.
