The Toronto Blue Jays delivered a key sweep to end August of the 2026 Major League Baseball regular season. The Blue Jays clobbered the Seattle Mariners 8-1 on Friday, beat the Mariners 4-3 on Saturday, and throttled the Mariners 7-0 on Sunday. The Blue Jays beat the Mariners by a combined score of 19-4, as the Mariners’s struggling offense in 2026 was on display. They have only scored 530 runs this season, the least in Major League Baseball.
On Friday, the Blue Jays were led by designated hitter George Springer, who had four hits. He had one home run, one double and two singles. The Blue Jays had three home runs as Nathan Lukes and Kazuma Okamoto also had dingers. Dylan Cease had a quality start on the mound, as he gave up only one earned run and four hits, to go along with eight strikeouts and one walk.
On Saturday, the Mariners were up 3-0 after four innings, but the Blue Jays scored two runs in the fifth inning, and two runs in the sixth inning. Myles Straw led the Blue Jays with two runs scored and two hits. On the mound, Jose Soriano had a quality start as he gave up three earned runs in seven innings. He gave up five hits and two walks to go along with six strikeouts. Tyler Rogers and Mason Fluharty had holds, and Louis Varland had a save.
On Sunday, we saw the brilliance from Max Scherzer, who only gave up one hit and one walk, in seven innings of work. Scherzer also had 10 strikeouts. Alejandro Kirk and Okamoto also homered.
The Blue Jays improved to 68 wins and 70 losses on the season. They are a game and a half back of the Cleveland Guardians for a wildcard spot.
