
Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson of Calgary, Alberta has had a spectacular week and proved to the hockey world that the Team Canada management for the Four Nations Faceoff made a colossal error in judgment in not including him to the roster next month. On Thursday for the second time in three days, Thompson recorded a shutout as he blanked the Ottawa Senators 1-0 in overtime at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario. Thompson’s Tuesday shutout came in a 3-0 Capitals win over the Anaheim Ducks.
On Thursday, Thompson may 24 saves for the shutout. He made eight saves in the first period, nine saves in the second period and seven saves in the third period. Brady Tkachuk led the Senators with five shots on goal.
The Capitals had their only goal from Alexander Ovechkin, who scored at 3:07 of the first overtime period from Rasmus Sandin. In the process, Ovechkin set the National Hockey League record for most different goalies all-time a player has scored a goal against with 179. Jaromir Jagr had the old record with 178.
In 2024-25, Thompson has a record of 20 wins, two regulation losses and three losses in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.13 and a save percentage of .924. Of Thompson’s six career shutouts, four have been with the Vegas Golden Knights and two with the Capitals.
