Team Canada wins gold medal in the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup

Team Canada has won the gold medal in the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday. In the gold medal game of the under-18 summer international ice hockey tournament, Canada defeated Sweden by a score of 4-1. This was the 23rd time that Canada won the gold medal in the event and this was the 31st Hlinka Gretzky Cup overall. The tournament was just the Hlinka Cup until 2018 when Wayne Gretzky, the greatest sports athlete of all-time, was added to the Cup.

In the gold medal game on Saturday, the Canadian goal scorers were Regina Pats left winger Tanner Howe of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Sherbrooke Phoenix right winger Ethan Gauthier of Drummondville, Quebec, Oshawa Generals centre Calum Ritchie of Brampton, Ontario, and Moose Jaw Warriors center Brayden Yager of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  Prince George Cougars center Riley Heidt of Saskatoon led Canada in scoring. He was the only player with a multi-point game as he had two assists.

Ritchie meanwhile led the tournament in scoring. In only five games, he had four goals and six assists for 10 points. Gauthier led the tournament with six goals, while Guelph Storm defenseman Cameron Allen of Toronto, Ontario and Ritchie co-led the tournament with six assists.
