Texas Rangers starting pitcher Cal Quantrill of Port Hope, Ontario recorded the 61st quality start of his Major League Baseball career on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a 10-5 Rangers win over the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington.
Quantrill threw six innings, faced 24 batters, and gave up three earned runs, five hits and one walk. He had four strikeouts. Of the 93 pitches Quantrill threw, he had 56 strikes.
With the win, Quantrill improved to a record of eight wins and five losses with an earned run average of 2.89 with the Rangers this season. In 30 games and 102 2/3 innings pitched, he has given up 84 hits, 33 earned runs, 12 home runs and 25 walks, to go along with 77 strikeouts, seven quality starts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.06.
Quantrill has now had 61 MLB quality starts with five different franchises. He has had four quality starts with the San Diego Padres, 37 quality starts with Cleveland, 12 quality starts with the Colorado Rockies, one quality start with the Miami Marlins and seven quality starts with the Rangers.
With the win, the Rangers improved to a record of 72 wins and 73 losses. Despite being one game below .500, the Rangers are only two and a half games back of the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West.
