Stuart Skinner records fifth career NHL shutout

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner of Edmonton, Alberta recorded his fifth career National Hockey League shutout on Friday. He accomplished the feat in a 4-0 Oilers win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

Skinner made 27 saves overall for the Oilers. He made five saves in the first period, 12 saves in the second period, and 10 saves in the third period. Four Penguins led the team with three shots on goal each. They were right winger Anthony Beauvillier of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, defenseman Kris Letang of Montreal, Quebec, Lars Eller, and Drew O’Connor.

From an offensive standpoint, two Canadians scored for the Oilers. They were Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia, and Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario. Bouchard had a multi-point game, as he had one goal and one assist for two points.

Skinner has a record of two wins, three regulation losses and one loss in extra time this season. He has a goals against average of 3.06, and a save percentage of .890. Skinner’s four prior shutouts came in a 3-0 Oilers win over the San Jose Sharks on February 14, 2022, in a 2-0 Oilers win over the Los Angeles Kings on March 30, 2023, in a 5-0 Oilers win over the Washington Capitals on November 24, 2023, and in a 5-0 Oilers win over the Sharks on December 28, 2023.
