The Saint John Sea Dogs are one win away from their second Memorial Cup title. On Saturday, the Sea Dogs had an impressive comeback in a 5-3 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes. In the process, the Sea Dogs reached the 2022 Memorial Cup Final at the Toronto Dominion Station in Saint John, New Brunswick on Wednesday, and will play either the Hamilton Bulldogs or the Cataractes. Hamilton will play Shawinigan in Monday’s semifinal.

The star for the Sea Dogs on Saturday was evident. It was right winger William Dufour of Quebec City, Quebec. Dufour scored four goals, the second most goals scored by one player in one game in Memorial Cup history. The record belongs to current Vancouver Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau of Toronto, Ontario, who scored five times in a 10-4 Toronto Marlboros win over the Sherbrooke Castors in the semifinals of the 1975 Memorial Cup in Kitchener, Ontario.

Dufour was one of three Sea Dogs with a multi-point game. Jeremie Poirier of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec had one goal and one assist for two points, and center Josh Lawrence of Fredericton, New Brunswick had two assists.

The other major story about this game was the Sea Dogs’s comeback. They were once down 3-0 after the first period before scoring five unanswered goals, including three straight by Dufour in the second period.
