The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed defensive back Tony Lippett of Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday according to Wil Hunter of USA Today. Lippett has three seasons of National Football League experience. He was with the Miami Dolphins in 2015 and 2016 and with the New York Giants in 2018.

In three NFL seasons, Lippett played 28 games and started 13 of them. He had four interceptions, 12 pass deflections, 81 combined tackles (58 solo tackles and 23 assisted tackles), and one tackle for a loss.

All four of Lippett’s NFL touchdowns came during the 2016 NFL regular season with the Dolphins. While playing cornerback, he had a pair of interceptions in two Dolphins victories. The first game with two picks came in a 31-24 Dolphins win over the San Diego Chargers on November 13, 2016, and the second game with two picks came in a 34-13 Dolphins win over the New York Jets on December 17, 2016. The NFL quarterbacks Lippett was able to intercept were Philip Rivers, Bryce Petty, and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

As a college player for Michigan State, Lippett was a cornerback as a freshman, and then moved to wide receiver for his sophomore season. He was even drafted as a wide receiver by the Dolphins in the fifth round, 156th overall, in the 2015 NFL Draft. However after being drafted by the Dolphins, Lippett was moved to special teams and the defensive side of the football.
