Reece Howden wins World Cup men’s ski cross gold in Craigleith

Reece Howden of Chilliwack, British Columbia won the gold medal in a men’s ski cross World Cup in Craigleith, Ontario on Friday. In all, it was one of six medals Team Canada won over the weekend in Craigleith.

Joining Howden on the podium on Friday was bronze medalist Kevin Drury of Toronto, Ontario. Meanwhile on Saturday, Howden and Drury reached the podium again as they won silver and bronze respectively. Also on Saturday, Courtney Hoffos of Invermere, British Columbia won silver and Abby McEwen of Edmonton, Alberta won bronze. The World Cup silver medalist in men’s ski cross on Friday was Alex Fiva of Switzerland. The World Cup gold medalist in men’s ski cross on Saturday was Florian Wilmsmann of Germany. The World Cup gold medalist in women’s ski cross on Saturday was Fanny Smith of Switzerland.

In the World Cup men’s ski cross standings, Howden is in second place with 838 points and Drury is in sixth place with 483 points. The World Cup leader is Wilmsmann with 850 points. Howden has now won 28 World Cup medals (16 gold medals. eight silver medals and four bronze medals). Drury has now won 18 World Cup medals (five gold medals, six silver medals, and seven bronze medals).

In the World Cup women’s ski cross standings, Hoffos is in seventh place with 554 points and McEwen is in eighth place with 469 points. Smith is the World Cup leader with 916 points. Hoffos has now won eight World Cup medals (three silver medals and five bronze medals). This was McEwen’s first ever World Cup medal.
