We now know the three teams that have qualified for the playoffs at the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay, Ontario. They are Team Canada’s Rachel Homan (7-0), Alberta’s Kayla Skrlik (5-2) and British Columbia’s Corryn Brown (5-2).
On Wednesday, the top three teams from Pool A were decided when Saskatchewan’s Nancy Martin defeated the other Alberta squad skipped by Selena Sturmay 9-8. Martin finished with a record of five wins and three losses. Mathematically, Saskatchewan could still finish in a three-way tie for second place with British Columbia and Alberta, but would not get the tiebreak, as they have already lost 7-6 to Brown and 10-5 to Skrlik.
In Pool B, it is still wide open with six teams still in the mix. Ontario’s Danielle Inglis leads at five wins and one loss. She is followed by Laurie St-Georges of Quebec at five wins and two losses, Manitoba’s Kerri Einarson and Nova Scotia’s Christina Black at four wins and two losses, Manitoba’s Kaitlyn Lawes at four wins and three losses, and Manitoba’s Kate Cameron at three wins and three losses. They two key morning draw games are Inglis versus Einarson and Black versus St-Georges.
Also on Wednesday, Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville tied a Scotties record for most points in a game with 15 as she beat Prince Edward Island’s Jane DiCarlo 15-2. McCarville had one point in the first end, three points in the fourth end, stole five points in the fifth end, stole two points in the sixth end and stole four points in the seventh end. Four teams have had 15 points in the past. They have been Alberta’s Deb Shermack in a 15-6 win over Nova Scotia in 1989, Manitoba’s Chelsea Carey in a 15-3 win over Quebec in 2014, Prince Edward Island’s Suzanne Birt in a 15-5 win over the Northwest Territories in 2019, and Wildcard’s Mackenzie Zacharias in a 15-3 win over Yukon in 2021.
Meanwhile, for the second straight day Einarson had a great comeback. One day after being down 7-2 to Cameron before winning 10-9, Einarson was down 5-1 to Black after five ends before winning 9-6.
