We are four days into the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Team Ontario has already reached the 20 gold medal mark. The gold medals have come in the sports of swimming and cycling.
Three Ontario female swimmers have shined in the pool so far. We discussed Katie Cosgriffe of Burlington, Ontario on Monday. In addition to winning the gold medal in the women’s 100 metre and 400 metre para freestyle divisions, Cosgriffe, who suffers from Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, has also won gold in the women’s 50 metre backstroke and 100 metre backstroke in the para division for four gold medals overall.
Julie Brousseau of Nepean, Ontario has won three individual gold medals to date and five gold medals overall. She placed first in the women’s 200 metre freestyle, 200 metre breaststroke, and women’s 400 metre individual medley. Brousseau was also on the Ontario teams that won gold in the women’s 4×100 metre freestyle relay and the 4×200 metre freestyle relay.
Meanwhile, Bailey O’Reagan of Etobicoke, Ontario has won three gold medals too. Known as an excllent long distance swimmer, she teamed up with Brousseau to win gold in the women’s 4×200 metre freestyle relay, and also placed first in the women’s 1500 metre freestyle and the women’s 400 metre freestyle.
