As we enter the fourth and final round of the 2023 Waste Management Phoenix Open on Super Bowl Sunday, there are two Canadians in contention. They are Nick Taylor of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Adam Hadwin of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

Taylor finished round three at -11, and is in second place and two strokes back of the leader and reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler of the United States, who is at -13. Hadwin is in fourth place and three strokes back of Scheffler. Taylor is tied for second place with 2021 United States Open champion Jon Rahm of Spain. Hadwin is tied for fourth place with three-time major champion Jordan Spieth of the United States. Spieth won his major titles at the 2015 Masters, 2015 United States Open, and 2017 British Open.

Taylor has won two PGA Tour events in the past. The first title came at the 2014 Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi, and the second title came at the 2020 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am in Pebble Beach, California. Hadwin has one PGA title. That was at the 2017 Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida. The fact that there are two Canadian golfers who have a chance to win on Sunday is a great time in Canadian golf.

In other golf news, Vancouver’s Stephen Ames won the Hassan II Golf Trophy in Morocco for his third career PGA Tour Champions title on Saturday. He shot a three-round score of -9 to beat Australia’s Mark Hensby by five strokes.
