According to 3downnation.com, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll of Welland, Ontario was named the 2022 National Football League Coach of the Year on Thursday. He accomplished the feat in his first season as a NFL head coach.
Daboll led the Giants to a postseason berth after finishing the regular season with a record of nine wins, seven losses and one tie. A year ago, the Giants were last in the NFC East at four wins and 13 losses, and much of the same was expected by them in 2022. However, Daboll guided the Giants to a fast start out of the gate, as they were winners of six of their first seven contests. In that time, New York defeated the Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars. The 21-20 Giants win over the Titans on September 11, the 27-22 win over the Packers in London, England on October 9, and the 24-23 Giants win over the Baltimore Ravens were considered significant upsets.
Then in the postseason, the Giants continued with success. They went on the road, and defeated the Minnesota Vikings 31-24 in one of six NFL wildcard contests. Saquon Barkley had the game-winning touchdown on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter.
