Cynthia Appiah wins bronze in women’s monobob at 2023 World Cup in Austria

Cynthia Appiah of Toronto, Ontario won a bronze medal on Saturday in a women’s monobob event in Innsbruck, Austria on Saturday. For Appiah, it was her seventh World Cup bobsled medal.

Appiah had a third place time of 1:49.42. Lisa Buckwitz of Germany won the gold medal with a time of 1:49.20. Breeana Walker of Australia won the silver medal with a time of 1:49.38. Appiah reached the podium by .03 seconds over Kaillie Humphries of the United States, who had a time of 1:49.45. The women’s monobob bronze medal for Appiah in Innsbruck will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. 

Appiah now has 1306 points in the World Cup standings and is in third place overall. Humphries leads with 1487 points and Laura Nolte of Germany is in second place with 1414 points.

There is one more women’s monobob World Cup event this season. That will take place in Sigulda, Latvia on February 18. Sigulda will also host two World Cup two-man events, and one two-woman World Cup event.

The four-man World Cup season is over. Francesco Friedrich of Germany won the World Cup four-man standings with 1737 points. Taylor Austin of Lethbridge, Alberta was the top Canadian in eighth place.
