Nick Pivetta of Victoria, British Columbia was traded from the Philadelphia Phillies to the Boston Red Sox on Friday according to Nick Selbe of Sports Illustrated. Pivetta was dealt with minor leaguer Connor Seabold of Laguna Hills, California for relief pitchers Brandon Workman of Arlington, Texas, and Heath Hembree of Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Pivetta had been with the Red Sox the last four seasons. The 2020 season has been a struggle for Pivetta, as he has only pitched five and two thirds innings, and has an earned run average of 15.88. In 5 2/3 innings, Pivetta had given up 10 hits, 10 earned runs, three home runs and one walk. He also has a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.94.

Pivetta has a record of 19 wins and 30 losses overall for the Phillies. He has an earned run average of 5.50 and a career WHIP of 1.43.

The best pitcher in the trade is Workman. He had four saves in eight games for the Red Sox in 2020, and had an earned run average of 4.05. Workman also had 16 saves for the Red Sox in 2019. In 11 games, Hembree had a record of two wins and zero losses, but a poor earned run average of 5.59.

The fact that the Phillies were trying to improve their bullpen comes as no surprise. The Phillies relievers were downright horrendous in their 9-7 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in Buffalo on Thursday.
