The San Diego Padres are off to a great start this season. At 14 wins and four losses, they lead the National League West. It has been a great season so far for Padres starting pitcher Nick Pivetta of Victoria, British Columbia.
After three starts, Pivetta has a record of two wins and one loss with a spectacular earned run average of 1.59. During 17 innings pitched, he has given up 10 hits, three earned runs, and four walks, and one home run, alongside 18 strikeouts, two quality starts, and a fabulous WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.82.
Pivetta’s second quality start happened on Friday and was the 57th of his MLB career. Pivetta faced 25 batters in a dominant 8-0 Padres win over the Colorado Rockies. He threw 88 pitches of which 62 were strikes. Pivetta gave up three hits and one walk, and had 10 strikeouts.
Pivetta also had a quality start this season on March 30. It came in the Padres’s 5-0 win over the Atlanta Braves.
Of Pivetta’s 57 quality starts, two have been with the Padres, 19 have been with the Philadelphia Phillies, and 36 have been with the Boston Red Sox. Pivetta’s next start will be Wednesday afternoon against the Chicago Cubs at San Diego’s Petco Park.
