Montreal, Quebec will host Davis Cup qualifying from IGA Stadium from February 1 to 2. Canada will be facing Hungary with the winner going to second round qualifying in September. In a changed format in 2025, there will be eight Davis Cup ties in the second round across the world, with the seven winners reaching the Davis Cup Finals at Unipol Arena in Bologna, Italy. The Italians will get an automatic bye to the Finals as the host, while the 2024 Davis Cup finalists Netherlands gets a bye to second round qualifying.
The winner of Canada and Hungary will face the winner of Austria and Finland. Canada is seeded third. Hungary and Austria are unseeded and Finland is seeded 12th.
This is the first time Canada will have faced Hungary in the Davis Cup. Hungary qualified to battle Canada by being one of the 12 nations to win 2024 Davis Cup World Group I action this past September. In a Davis Cup tie, Hungary beat Egypt three matches to two.
Canada meanwhile will look to bounce back after losing two matches to none to Germany in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Davis Cup. It is interesting that Canada is seeded third in 2025 and Germany is seeded fourth when the Germans knocked out the Canadians this year.
