Montreal Alouettes win 2023 Grey Cup

The Montreal Alouettes have won the 2023 Grey Cup from Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario. On Sunday, the Alouettes defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-24.

Tyson Philpot of Delta, British Columbia had six catches for 63 receiving yards and one touchdown. He was named the game’s top Canadian. Philpot’s touchdown came in dramatic fashion. It was a 19-yard catch from Cody Fajardo with 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

The Blue Bombers were unable to protect their leads. They were up 10-0 in the first quarter, and 17-7 at the half. This is the second straight season the Blue Bombers have gone to a Grey Cup and lost. Last year they lost 24-23 to the Toronto Argonauts in Regina, Saskatchewan.

For the Alouettes, it was their eighth Grey Cup. They previously won in 1949, 1970, 1974, 1977, 2002, 2009 and 2010.

There were 21 Canadians who won the Grey Cup with the Alouettes on Sunday.
