Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar of Calgary, Alberta was named the National Hockey League’s first star of the week for the period from November 13-19, 2023. In three games, he had one goal and seven assists for eight points.
Makar began the week with one goal and one assist for two points in a 5-1 Avalanche win over the Seattle Kraken on November 13. That was followed by three assists in an 8-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks on November 15, and three more assists in a 6-3 Avalanche win over the Dallas Stars on November 18.
In three games, Makar was a +5 with three power-play points, 10 shots on net, one hit and five blocked shots. All three of Makar’s power-play points were power-play assists.
During the 2023-24 NHL season, Makar has four goals and 20 assists for 24 points. He is a +13 with eight penalty minutes, nine power-play points, two shorthanded assists, 29 blocked shots, nine hits, 15 takeaways, and 10 giveaways. Of Makar’s nine power-play points, was one power-play goal. Makar scored from Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Mikko Rantanen in a 5-2 Avalanche win over the Los Angeles Kings.
Makar’s two shorthanded points also came in Avalanche wins. The first was a shorthanded assist on a goal by Logan O’Connor in a 4-1 Avalanche win over the Seattle Kraken on October 17, and the second was a shorthanded assist on a goal by Miles Wood in a 6-3 Avalanche win over the New Jersey Devils on November 7. The two shorthanded points were the first two shorthanded points in Makar’s career.
The Avalanche are currently at 11 wins and six losses for 22 points. They are in second place in the Central Division.
