Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec won his third medal of the 2021-22 International Ski Federation World Cup moguls season on Friday, and 96th medal of his career, with a bronze medal in Alpe d’Huez, France. Kingsbury previously won the gold medals in men’s moguls on December 4 in Ruka, Finland and another gold medal in men’s dual moguls in Idre Fjall, Sweden on December 12. However, it should be noted that it is only moguls, (and not dual moguls) that is part of the Olympic Games.
Kingsbury had a score of 81.34 points. Ikuma Horishima of Japan won the gold medal with a score of 87.84 points, and Daichi Hara of Japan won the silver medal with 82.96 points. Kingsbury reached the podium by 2.34 points over Kosuke Sugimoto of Japan, who had a fourth place score of 79 points.
The bronze medal result for Kingsbury was a bounce back placement in moguls for him after he finished in eighth place in Idre Fjall on December 11. With the third place finish, Kingsbury is in second place in the World Cup moguls standings with 192 points. Horishima leads with 260 points. The podium finish should give Kingsbury confidence as he prepares for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The next World Cup moguls event is in Kingsbury’s home province of Quebec, with Mont-Tremblant the location on January 7.
