Mikael Kingsbury wins gold in dual moguls at the 2023 World Freestyle Skiing Championships

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec won the gold medal in the men’s dual moguls at the 2023 World Freestyle Skiing Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia on Sunday. For Kingsbury, it is his eighth World Championship gold medal and fourth in dual moguls as the previous three came in 2015 in Kreischberg, Austria, in 2019 in Park City, Utah, and in 2021 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

As seeded first, Kingsbury had a bye to the second round. There he beat fellow Canadian Elliot Vallaincourt of Drummondville, Quebec 19.5 to 15.5. Kingsbury then beat Dylan Marcellini of the United States 24-11 in the round of 16, Benjamin Cavet of France 24-11 in the quarterfinals, Pavel Kolmakov of Kazakhstan 18-17 in the semifinals, and Walter Wallberg of Sweden 19-16 in the gold medal match. Matt Graham of Australia won the bronze medal.

This was the second of two gold medals for Kingsbury at the 2023 World Freestyle Skiing Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia. The first was in men’s moguls on Saturday.

Overall, Canada has four medals at the 2023 World Freestyle Skiing Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia. However, the other two medals came in non-Olympic events. Arnaud Gaudet of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts won the bronze medal in men’s parallel slalom snowboarding on Tuesday, and Marielle Thompson of North Vancouver, British Columbia and Reece Howden, British Columbia won the silver medal in the mixed team ski cross on Sunday.
