Two Canadians scored overtime winners on Sunday in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Mathew Barzal of Coquitlam, British Columbia scored the game-winning goal for the New York Islanders in a 2-1 overtime win for the New York Islanders over the Washington Capitals from Toronto and Brayden Schenn of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan scored the game-winning goal for the St. Louis Blues in a 3-2 overtime win over the Vancouver Canucks from Edmonton.

Barzal scored his first National Hockey League playoff overtime winner of his career. It came at 4:28 of the extra period from Jordan Eberle of Regina, Saskatchewan, and Derick Brassard of Hull, Quebec. With the win, the Islanders now lead the Eastern Conference best out of seven first-round series three games to none.

Schenn meanwhile had his game winner from Ryan O’Reilly of Clinton, Ontario, and Carl Gunnarsson at 15:06 of the first overtime period. Like Barzal, it was Schenn’s first career overtime winner. With the win, the Blues won their first game of the series, but still trail two games to one.

O’Reilly was one of two Canadians on a winning team to register a multi-point game on Sunday. The other was Tyler Seguin of Brampton, Ontario, who had two assists for the Dallas Stars in their 5-4 win over the Calgary Flames. With the win, the Stars and Flames are tied at two games apiece in their series.
