Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele of Kitchener, Ontario recorded his ninth career National Hockey League hat trick on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a 6-3 Jets win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This was the second time in a week that the Jets faced the Panthers as Florida blanked Winnipeg 5-0 on Saturday.
Scheifele scored a goal for Winnipeg in each period on Tuesday. He first put the Jets up 2-0 with two minutes and 20 seconds left in the first period on an all-Canadian goal from Gabriel Vilardi of Kingston, Ontario and defenseman Josh Morrissey of Calgary, Alberta. Scheifele then put the Jets up 3-0 at 15:41 of the second period on the power-play from Nikolaj Ehlers and Morrissey. Scheifele then scored the game-winning goal at 9:46 of the third period from Kyle Connor and Ehlers.
Scheifele was one of two Canadians to score for the Jets. The other was Morgan Barron of Halifax, Nova Scotia, who scored twice.
This season, Scheifele has 12 goals and 12 assists for 24 points in 19 games. He is a +6 with 13 penalty minutes, nine power-play points, 45 shots on goal, 169 faceoff wins, 15 blocked shots, 17 hits, seven takeaways, and 24 giveaways.
The Jets meanwhile lead the NHL with 32 points. After 19 games, they have a record of 16 wins and three losses.
