The Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League have named Ed Hervey as their new general manager according to Phil Heidenreich of Global News Edmonton on Tuesday. This will actually be the second time that Hervey was Edmonton’s general manager. He was previously the Edmonton Eskimos general manager from 2013 to 2017.
During the first time Hervey was the Edmonton general manager, Edmonton won the Grey Cup. The Eskimos defeated the Ottawa Redblacks 26-20 at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
In addition to being the general manager, Hervey has spent extensive time with the Edmonton organization. He was a wide receiver for the Eskimos from 1999 to 2006, was the Eskimos West Coast Head Scout from 2007 to 2008, and the Eskimos Head Scout from 2009 to 2012. As a player, Hervey won two more Grey Cups with Edmonton. In 2003, the Eskimos defeated the Montreal Alouettes 34-22 at Taylor Field in Regina, Saskatchewan. Then in 2005, the Eskimos defeated the Alouettes again 38-35 in BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia.
During eight seasons as a player for Edmonton, Hervey had 476 receptions for 6715 receiving yards and 43 touchdown catches. He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1995 National Football League Draft, but did not play for them in the regular season due to a broken leg suffered in exhibition play. In addition to being the general manager of Edmonton, Hervey was the general manager of the British Columbia Lions from 2017 to 2020, and the general manager of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2024.
