
Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin of Beauceville, Quebec was named the Professional Women’s Hockey League First Star of the Week for the week from January 6-12, 2025. In two games, Poulin had two goals and one assist for three points. She was also a +1 with seven shots on goal, 15 faceoff wins, one game-winning goal, and two hits.
Poulin, who plays for the Montreal Victoire, had two goals in a 4-2 Montreal win over the Toronto Sceptres on January 8. She then had one assist in a 4-2 Montreal loss to Minnesota on January 12. In Montreal’s win over Toronto, Poulin’s first goal was the game-winning goal. It came from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Erin Ambrose of Keswick, Ontario at 7:48 of the second period and put the Victoire up 3-0 at the time. Poulin won a gold medal for Canada in women’s hockey at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, and at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Poulin and Ambrose won gold for Canada in women’s hockey at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
In 2024-25, Poulin has four goals and two assists for six points in nine games. She is a +1 with four penalty minutes, 99 faceoff wins, one shorthanded goal, two game-winning goals, and 30 shots on goal. The shorthanded goal opened the scoring at 8:02 of the second period in a 2-1 Montreal win over the Ottawa Charge on December 6. Poulin’s other assist this season came on December 21 on a goal by Canadian Olympic gold medalist Laura Stacey of Mississauga, Ontario at the 15 second mark in overtime in a 4-3 Victoire win over the Sceptres. Stacey also won gold at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Poulin’s other game-winning goal came on December 28 in a 3-2 Victoire win over the Minnesota Frost. Poulin scored from Jennifer Gardiner of Surrey, British Columbia and Stacey at 5:54 of the second period to break a 2-2 deadlock.
The Victoire are currently at six wins and three losses for 17 points. They are two points back of the Frost and in second place in the PWHL standings.
