Mackenzie Blackwood records 12th career NHL shutout

Mackenzie Blackwood of Thunder Bay, Ontario recorded his 12th career National Hockey League shutout on Friday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-0 Colorado Avalanche win over the St. Louis Blues at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.

Blackwood made 19 saves overall. He made six saves in the first period, eight saves in the second periods and five saves in the third period.

It was a strong game offensively for Avalanche left winger Jonathan Drouin of Ste-Agathe, Quebec. He had two goals and one assist for three points. Meanwhile, a second Canadian scored for the Avalanche as defenseman Cale Makar of Calgary, Alberta scored a power-play marker at 17:25 of the first period.

Of Blackwood’s 12 NHL shutouts, eight have been with the New Jersey Devils, three have been with the San Jose Sharks and one with the Colorado Avalanche. This was Blackwood’s second shutout of the season. The first came on November 10, 2024 in a 1-0 Sharks win over the Devils.

In 2024-25, Blackwood has a record of 17 wins, 14 regulation losses and five losses in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.58 and a save percentage of .915.

With the win, the Avalanche improve to a record of 30 wins, 21 regulation losses and two losses in extra time for 62 points. They are in fourth place in the Central Division.
