Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec has reached the final of the 2025 Open Occitanie in Montpellier, France. This is Auger-Aliassime’s second final of 2025 as he already won the Adelaide International last month.
In the final in Montpellier, Auger-Aliassime will be facing American Aleksandar Kovacevic. Head-to-head, Auger-Aliassime has faced Kovacevic once before. That was in the first round of Cincinnati this past year which Auger-Aliassime won 6-3, 6-1.
Auger-Aliassime will also be trying to redeem himself after a rather disappointing Australian Open where he lost in the second round. In Melbourne, Auger-Aliassime lost to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain after winning the first two sets. The final score was 6-7, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 in favour of the unseeded Spaniard.
In Montpellier over this past week, Auger-Aliassime was seeded second, only behind Russian Andrey Rublev. He got a bye to the second round where he beat Arthur Cazaux of France, 6-4, 7-6. Auger-Aliassime then beat the eighth seed Yunchaokete Bu of China 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, and Jesper de Jong of the Netherlands 6-4, 7-6 in the semifinals.
Auger-Aliassime made the decision this past week to compete in the 2025 Open Occitanie rather than the Davis Cup qualifying in his home city of Montreal. Team Canada significantly missed Auger-Aliassime on Saturday as Hungary is up 2-0 in the best out of five.
