Las Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Logan Thompson of Calgary, Alberta recorded his second career National Hockey League shutout on Thursday as the Golden Knights beat the Chicago Blackhawks 1-0. Interestingly it was also the first shutout of the 2022-23 NHL regular season.

Thompson made 27 saves in the game. He made 10 saves in the first period, eight saves in the second period, and nine saves in the third period. Four Blackhawks players led the team with three shots on goal each. They were Andreas Athanasiou of London, Ontario, Jack Johnson, Patrick Kane, and Philipp Kurashev.

Thompson’s shutout last year came on March 30, 2022. The Golden Knights defeated the Seattle Kraken 3-0.

Vegas entered the 2022-23 NHL regular season with a lot of questions when it came down to goaltending. Robin Lehner is missing the entire year with hip surgery, and the Golden Knights will have Adin Hill of Comox, British Columbia and Thompson share the load in Lehner’s absence.

There is no doubt that the Golden Knights underachieved last season. The franchise was to contend for a division title, yet they failed to make the playoffs for the first time in team history. A shutout for Thompson in the Golden Knights’s opening game of the 2022-23 season has put Vegas off to a good start.
