Jordan Romano of Markham, Ontario is now in the Toronto Blue Jays record books. On Monday in a 3-0 Toronto win over the New York Yankees, Romano set the Blue Jays record for most consecutive saves with 26 according to Rogers Sportsnet. He broke the old record set by closer Tom Henke, who had 25 straight saves in 1991.

Romano began the streak on May 11, 2021 in a 5-3 Blue Jays win over the Atlanta Braves. It was his first of 23 straight saves for the Blue Jays in 2021. The last time Romano blew a save was on April 8, 2021 in a 7-5 Blue Jays loss to the Los Angeles Angels.

The save for Romano on Monday was his third of the 2022 Major League Baseball regular season. He previously had saves in the only other Blue Jays wins in 2022–a 10-8 Toronto win over the Texas Rangers on April 8, and in a 4-3 Blue Jays win over the Rangers on April 9. So far this season, Romano has a perfect earned run average of 0.00 in three games. In three innings pitched, he has given up two hits and zero walks, and had three strikeouts, with a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.67.

Interestingly a Canadian also has the Major League Baseball record for most consecutive saves. Eric Gagne of Montreal, Quebec had 84 consecutive saves for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2002 to 2004.
