The Toronto Maple Leafs are the first Canadian team to qualify for the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. On Saturday night at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, the Maple Leafs defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-2. With the win, the Maple Leafs reached the 100 point plateau, becoming the fifth team in the NHL to do so this season.

It was once again solid night for the Maple Leafs leading scorer, Auston Matthews of San Ramon, California. Matthews had his second straight two-goal game as he also scored twice on Thursday in a 4-3 Toronto overtime win over the Dallas Stars.

Meanwhile in the Maple Leafs win over the Canadiens, Canadian Olympic gold medalist John Tavares of Mississauga, Ontario scored the game-winning goal for Toronto at 8:07 of the second period, which put the Maple Leafs up 3-1 at the time. Alexander Kerfoot of Vancouver, British Columbia and Ilya Mikheyev picked up the assists. Tavares won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

The Maple Leafs currently have a record of 47 wins, 19 regulation losses and six losses in extra time. Two other Canadian teams are in a playoff spot. The Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers are first and second respectively in the Pacific Division.
