Jake Allen records his 26th career NHL shutout

National Hockey League goaltender Jake Allen of Fredericton, New Brunswick collected his 26th career NHL shutout on Monday. He accomplished the feat by making 31 saves in a 3-0 New Jersey Devils win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Allen made 13 saves in the first period, 10 saves in the second period, and eight saves in the third period. Eight Oilers tied for the team lead with three shots on goal each. They were defensemen Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario, Darnell Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario, and Mattias Ekholm, and forwards Connor Brown and Jeff Skinner of Toronto, Ontario, Adam Henrique of Brantford, Ontario, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia, and Vasily Podkolzin.

This is Allen’s second shutout of the 2024-25 season. He is tied with Anton Forsberg of the Ottawa Senators for the most in the NHL.

Allen’s first shutout of the season came on October 14 in a 3-0 Devils win over the Utah Hockey Club. In this shutout, Allen made six saves in the first period, five saves in the second period, and nine saves in the third period. Lawson Crouse of Mount Brydges, Ontario, and Alexander Kerfoot of Vancouver, British Columbia were two of four Utah players which led the team with three shots on goal.

On the season, Allen has a record of three wins, one regulation loss, and one loss in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.60 and a save percentage of .904. Allen’s only other win with the Devils this season came on October 5, as he made 17 saves on 18 shot attempts in a 3-1 Devils win over the Buffalo Sabres.

With the win, the Devils now lead the Metropolitan Division with a record of eight wins, five regulation losses, and two losses in extra time for 18 points. They have one more point than the second place New York Rangers.
