Jake Allen records 27th career NHL shutout

Jake Allen of Fredericton, New Brunswick recorded his 27th National Hockey League career shutout on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-0 New Jersey Devils win over the Philadelphia Flyers at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Allen made 24 saves in the shutout. He made 10 saves in the first period, six saves in the second period, and eight saves in the third period. Four Flyers led the team with three shots on goal each. They were Sean Couturier of Bathurst, New Brunswick, Scott Laughton of Oakville, Ontario, Travis Konecny of London, Ontario and Joel Farabee.

Two Canadians scored for the Devils. They were Nathan Bastian of Kitchener, Ontario and Dawson Mercer of Carbonear, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Of Allen’s 27 NHL shutouts, 21 have been with the St. Louis Blues, and three each with the Montreal Canadiens and Devils. This was Allen’s third shutout this season. Allen previously blanked the Utah Hockey Club 3-0 on October 14 and the Edmonton Oilers 3-0 on November 4.

This season, Allen has a record of eight wins, nine regulation losses and one loss in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.55 and a save percentage of .906. The Devils are in third place in the Metropolitan Division with 64 points. They have a record of 29 wins, 18 regulation losses, and six losses in extra time.
