
Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin of Beauceville, Quebec registered her second career Professional Women’s Hockey League hat trick on Wednesday. She accomplished the feat in a 4-1 Montreal Victoire victory over the Ottawa Charge at Place Bell in Laval, Quebec.
Poulin tied the game at one at 2:10 of the second period. Jennifer Gardiner of Surrey, British Columbia and Anna Wilgren picked up the assists. Poulin then put the Victoire up 3-1 at 10:12 of the second period on the power-play from Gardiner and Cayla Barnes. Poulin then closed the scoring from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Erin Ambrose of Keswick, Ontario with three minutes and 44 seconds into an empty net.
There were two Canadians on the Victoire with a multi-point game. The other was Gardiner, who had one goal and two assists.
Poulin’s first hat trick came on January 10, 2024. Montreal beat New York 5-2.
This season, Poulin has eight goals and two assists for 10 points in 13 games. She is a +5 with six penalty minutes, 152 faceoff wins, two power-play goals, one shorthanded goal, three game-winning goals, 20 hits, and 42 shots on goal. The other power-play goal came on January 17 in a 4-2 Victoire win over the Minnesota Frost. Poulin scored the game-winning goal from Barnes and Ambrose at 5:52 of the second period which put Montreal up 3-0 at the time. Poulin’s shorthanded goal was an unassisted marker that opened the scoring in a 2-1 Victoire win over the Charge on December 6 at 8:02 of the second period.
The Victoire lead the PWHL standings with 28 points. After 13 games, they have a record of seven regulation wins, three wins in extra time, two regulation losses, and one loss in extra time. The Victoire have three more points than the second place Minnesota Frost.
Poulin and Ambrose won a gold medal for Canada in women’s hockey at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. Poulin also won a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
