Canadian Olympic bronze medallist Geoff Walker of Beaverlodge, Alberta will have a new street named after him in his hometown. According to Shane Clausing of Everything Grande Prairie on Wednesday, 4th Avenue in Beaverlodge will now be named Geoff Walker Way. Walker was the Canadian lead on the men’s curling team that won the bronze medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

In addition to having an avenue named after him, Walker will also receive a parade on April 26. Walker is the first Canadian Olympic medalist ever to come from Beaverlodge, which is located 43 kilometres west of Grande Prairie, Alberta.

At the international level in addition to his Olympic bronze medal, Walker has won three medals for Canada a the World Men’s Curling Championship. They were a gold medal at the 2017 World Men’s Curling Championship in Edmonton, Alberta, and silver medals at the 2018 World Men’s Curling Championship and 2022 World Men’s Curling Championship, which were each in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Meanwhile, Walker also won two gold medals for Canada at the World Junior Men’s Curling Championship. He was the third for skip Charley Thomas of Calgary at the 2006 World Junior Men’s Curling Championship in Jeonju, South Korea, and the alternate at the 2007 World Junior Men’s Curling Championship in Eveleth, Minnesota.
