Canadian Olympic gold medalist Drew Doughty of London, Ontario has been named to Canada’s roster for the Four Nations Faceoff tournament that begins on Wednesday night at the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec. Doughty replaces Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo of King City, Ontario, who withdrew citing a series of health issues.

Doughty has won two gold medals for Canada at the Olympic Winter Games. He was part of the Canadian team that placed first at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Also on the international stage, Doughty won gold for Canada at the 2008 World Junior Hockey Championship in Pardubice, Czech Republic, and the 2016 World Cup in Toronto, Ontario.

In the pre-season, Doughty suffered a significant knee injury. As a result, he has only played six games this season. During that time, Doughty has one assist for one point, is a -1 with 11 shots on goal, nine blocked shots, seven hits and seven giveaways. Doughty’s assist came on a goal by Kevin Fiala on a game-winning goal with three minutes and two seconds left in the second period in a 4-2 Kings win over the Carolina Hurricanes on February 1.

Canada’s first game of the tournament is against Sweden on Wednesday. They then play the United States in Montreal on Saturday and Finland in Boston on Monday.
