Devils trade defenseman Kevin Bahl to the Flames

The New Jersey Devils traded defenseman Kevin Bahl of New Westminster, British Columbia to the Calgary Flames on Wednesday according to nhl.com. In addition to Bahl, the Flames are receiving a first round pick in the 2025 National Hockey League Entry Draft, and the Devils are receiving goaltender Jakob Markstrom.

Bahl is joining his second National Hockey League team. He previously played the last four seasons with the New Jersey Devils since the 2020-21 NHL regular season.

In 82 games with the Devils in 2023-24, Bahl had one goal and 10 assists for 11 points. He was a +1 with 82 penalty minutes, one game-winning goal, 63 shots on goal, 103 blocked shots, 151 hits, 19 blocked shots, and 24 giveaways.

Bahl’s only regular season goal in 2023-24, was the first game-winning goal in his NHL career. It came on February 27 in a 7-2 Devils win over the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center in San Jose, California. Bahl scored from Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes at 13:08 of the second period. At the time, the Devils went up by a score of 3-1.

Markstrom is joining his fourth NHL team. In addition to the Flames, Markstrom has played for the Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks. In 2023-24, Markstrom had a record of 23 wins, 23 regulation losses, and two losses in extra time, with two shutouts, a goals against average of 2.78 and a save percentage of .905.
