Team Canada beat Germany on Wednesday in the 2024 Men’s Volleyball Nations League from Manila, Philippines. In a straight set win, Canada won 25-19, 25-18, 25-21. With the win, Canada improved to a record of six wins and four losses for 18 points, and are in fifth place in the preliminary round standings. However, it should be noted that France and Japan both have a game in hand against Canada at six wins and three losses for 17 points each. The top eight teams in the preliminary round advance to the final round on June 27 in Lodz, Poland.
On Wednesday, three Canadian players reached double figures in points. Outside hitter Stephen Maar of Aurora, Ontario and opposite Arthur Szwarc of Toronto, Ontario had 15 points each, while opposite Eric Loeppky of Steinbach, Manitoba had 11 points. Maar led Canada with 14 attack points, and had one block point. Szwarc had 11 attack points, and led Canada with two aces and two block points. Loeppky had 10 attack points and one ace. Two more Canadians had two block points to lead the team. They were middle blocker Lucas Van Berkel of Edmonton, Alberta, and setter Luke Herr of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Team Canada has two more games in preliminary round play from Manila. They play Brazil on Friday and the Netherlands on Saturday.
