Denver Broncos sign defensive tackle Christian Covington

The Denver Broncos of the National Football League have signed defensive end Christian Covington of Vancouver, British Columbia from the Dallas Cowboys to a one-year contract according to TSN. He is guaranteed to make $625,000 and could make up to $1.75 million.

The Broncos become Covington’s third NFL team. In addition to one season with the Cowboys, he has also played four seasons with the Houston Texans.

In 16 games with the Cowboys in 2019, Covington had one pass defended, one sack, 28 combined tackles (20 solo tackles and eight assisted tackles), four tackles for a loss, and three quarterback hits. In 66 career NFL games since 2015, Covington has two pass deflections, one forced fumble, 8.5 sacks, 93 combined tackles (59 solo tackles and 34 assisted tackles), 15 tackles for a loss and 19 quarterback hits.

Covington has also played in four postseason NFL games with the Texans and has four combined tackles (three assisted tackles and one solo tackle) and two quarterback hits. The 26 year-old is the son of Hamilton Tiger-Cats hall of famer Grover Covington.

Since the NFL Draft ended on Saturday, four Canadians have signed as free agents with NFL teams. The Indianapolis Colts have signed University of Alberta Golden Bears offensive lineman Carter O’Donnell of Red Deer, Alberta; the New York Giants have signed Simon Fraser University wide receiver Rysen John of Vancouver; the Green Bay Packers have signed University of Montreal Carabins defensive back Marc-Antoine Dequoy of Ile-Bizard, Quebec and the Los Angeles Rams have signed Brown University defensive tackle Michael Hoecht of Oakville, Ontario.
